About Threskiorni

Featured Image

You can call me Mazu or Threskiorni von Zeit zu Zeit. Threskiorni comes from the bird family Threskiornithidae and von Zeit zu Zeit means "from time to time" in German. It means I like ibises and upload my work very infrequently.

I am a 30+ year old artist and photographer from Germany with a love for nature, animals, photography, aviation, creatures and creating characters and stories. I've been drawing since I was a child and have always been self-taught without any art training.

Traditional art is what I started with and I still enjoy working with different techniques. My favourite mediums are coloured pencils, markers and watercolours. But I also like to try new things. My first digital art was created in 2009 using Photoshop Elements and a Wacom Bamboo tablet. Since 2013 I've been using CS6, Paint Tool SAI and since 2019 a Wacom Intuos Pro. Now I often use my Samsung Galaxy Tab and various free apps because it's very handy to be able to draw anywhere.

I started drawing as a child to depict my own stories and characters, which have stayed with me for years. I hope to write books about them one day, so I have only published a small part of my stories. My favourite things to draw are animals and fantastical creatures, possibly from distant planets, although there are some humans in my stories too. I am particularly fond of birds, which I admire for their uniqueness and beauty.

I started taking photos in 2007 with a simple point-and-shoot camera. Soon I felt the need to upgrade my equipment. The Nikon D5000 became my first DSLR in 2010 and in 2019 I bought my beloved D7500.

My photography was originally used to create a collection of images as references for my drawings. As more lenses were added and my passion grew, I found myself photographing more than I could draw. I'm probably more of a photographer than an artist, although I enjoy both.

My favorite subjects are animals, landscapes, architecture, macro and aviation photography.
